A marathon

ecologically responsible

In order to reduce the environmental impact generated by our races, we try as much as possible to put our supplies near a water source, and in a place allowing the supply of electricity to the facilities.

As an extension of this idea, the consumption of local products is obvious to us. Our cheese comes from the Montroc farm and the 3 Bears farm of Vallorcine.

When buying our products we try to give maximum priority to those with minimalist packaging, bulk purchases, etc. to reduce our waste production.

We also limit administrative procedures on single-use paper, including during the delivery of bibs where the process is optimized to minimize paper consumption.

In collaboration with the SITOM (waste sorting center of the valley) the sorting of waste is encouraged via eco-collection on the places of public affluence and assured on our supplies by our teams of volunteers very attentive to this problematic (recovery of bottle caps for the construction of wheelchairs etc.)

Our farmer teams are in charge of cleaning all the trails after the runners passage.

In the order to limit the use of individuals cars during the event, we set up several shuttle systems.

  • The first one allowing the recovery and the transport of runners to their starting lines.
  • The second one allowing accompanies of runners to follow them accross all  the valley without using personnal car.

The frequency of the shuttles has been optimized to the maximum so that this organization best meets the expectations of the accompanies.

In keeping with the idea of reducing vehicle use, members of the organization have access to a fleet of electric bicycles that they use as soon as possible.

During races, runners as well as the public on busy areas have access to composting toilet which produce only biodegradable waste.

Several measures are still in the process of reflection and we will not fail to keep you informed of their future achievements.

We are listening to all your suggestions regarding this issue.

The natural reserve

of aiguilles rouges

A part of the races of Mont-Blanc Marathon cross the natural reserve of the aiguilles rouges, an emblematic place which is protected by the Community of Municipalities of the valley of Chamonix Mont-Blanc since 1972.

These are the parts of the route which cross the natural reserve :

On the Mont-Blanc 23 km and 42 km

You will take a part of the botanical trail after Trélechamp and before arriving to the pass of Montets.

Small signs indicate the names of the most remarkable flowers that thrive there. At the top of the pass, at the back of the chalet, several ibexes have taken up residence (if you are lucky, maybe you will see them).

While going down from the Aiguillette des Posettes, you will cross the natural reserve (a sign will indicated it) to the bottom of the pass. This area is the  home of chamois and wild boar. There is, at the level of the place called “slate” an eagle area. Don’t lift your nose but look at your feet!

On the Mont-Blanc 90 km

You will enter on the natural reserve after passing the food supplies of Flégère until the Col des Montets. On this portion of teh route you will be brought to meet many ibexes of the Alps, thank you to respect them.

Thank you to protect the natural reserve by not throwing any garbage and by staying on the marked path.
